Episode 1, the backer of successful companies like Carwow, Triptease & AimBrain, is an early stage venture capital firm based in London, with a £60m fund to invest in UK software driven startups. Episode 1 leads rounds of £500k to £2m into fantastic teams with real insight into markets that are emerging or evolving. As an early stage fund, we invest in the best opportunities, but are particularly interested in how emerging “deep tech” technologies are disrupting industry, and how technology is reinventing markets. We believe that software has already and will continue to change the way we do everything. We as individuals and we as businesses. The obvious examples are around us everywhere. The Googles, Facebooks and eBays. But there are thousands of companies of all sizes making material differences to our lives. Amongst our past investments, Shazam has changed how people discover music and interact with TV shows, Zoopla has made searching for properties immeasurably easier, LoveFilm has brought better films more easily into our living rooms and BetFair has created a superior betting experience for both sides of a bet. We receive great business plans every week. Not all of them are ready for investment, but we help those that are there or nearly there get their first round of institutional support. We believe that if someone is buying your service, then we want to look at it, as long as your target market is big enough. Other: Adrian is a mentor at TechStars London
