Factor[e] develops investment theses and deploys risk capital in the following areas: access to energy, mobility, agriculture, and waste and resource management.

  • Associate

    2018 - 2021

Supported Factor[e] Ventures by sourcing and evaluating early-stage ventures, contributing to investment thesis development, and directing internal projects. Responsible for framing techno-economic analyses and managing analyst activities to evaluate technology or venture opportunities, identifying areas of technical and market risk during due diligence process, and summarizing investment opportunities. Actively tracking and guiding internal due diligence process for continual improvement. Contributing to investment thesis development by doing primary research and leading project teams on special research and development projects (e.g., appliance research, minigrid lab development). Areas of specialty include hybrid renewable power systems, electrification of transportation, motor efficiency, and rural or off-grid appliances.

As an analyst for Factor[e] Ventures, performed technical due diligence, advanced internal projects, and provided technical services for portfolio companies. Created techno-economic models to support decisions making during the due diligence process, especially for technology related to hybrid renewable energy systems, transportation, and agri-processing. Contributed to refining internal processes that govern how ventures move through a due diligence process. Factor[e] is specifically focused in the areas of energy access, sanitation, waste to energy, and sustainable transport, especially for emerging economies.

2020 - 2022

  • Board Observer

    2021 - 2022

  • Product Manager

    2020 - 2021

Responsible for product direction and expanding customer base to emerging markets. 60Hertz is a microgrid maintenance software company. Their software is for technicians who maintain essential power assets at sites that range from emerging market mini-girds and diesel backup power for critical infrastructure to non-traditional microgrids like maritime vessels. The software offers a customer-customized checklist for maintenance techs responsible for remote sites. They can help track inventory, assign duties, efficiently report on the values necessary for stakeholders. Personally, I believe that a culture of maintenance will be important for energy access microgrid operators as they establish their place in the utility sector as reliable and efficient providers of electricity.

  • Sustainability Consultant

    2012 - 2015

Worked in the Impact Assessment and Performance and Assurance Practice. Have supported large environmental and social impact assessments by organizing stakeholder interviews, leading survey teams, collating data, and writing reports. Gained experience supporting data collection and conducting analysis for an industry group's ongoing sustainability reporting program. Have conducted both compliance and risk-based assessments in the power and agriculture sectors. Managed various aspects of large projects including coordinating project work, planning deliverables, communicating with the client, and managing the financial aspects of the project.

  • Researcher

    2011 - 2012

Conducted thesis work, which involved developing a sustainable solar headlamp for medical attendees in developing rural areas. Created a prototype that involved local labor and materials as much as possible. Project goal was to create a product that will be more easily integrated into the local culture, and will therefore, increase the lifetime of the product. Am working on obtaining an open-source hardware license for the device, and am continuing to develop the prototype.

  • Sustainability Curriculum Planner

    2011 - 2011

Building a a sustainability curriculum targeted at interested individuals, business, and executives. Course will be delivered within an online learning environment in the fall of 2012.

  • Mayor's Office of Sustainability Intern

    2010 - 2011

Intern to Kristin Sullivan, Chair of the America Solar Cities Program for Philadelphia. Assisted Kristin with daily tasks, but was also given the lead on the following projects: Streamlined permitting process for solar hot water with a Philadelphia-specific solar hot water guide in mind, researched the potential for 'solar hot spots' in the city, and the solar PV web video tutorials. Learned and critiqued Hara, the new energy database management system, maintained the solar virtual tour, created and edited newsletters, and -like a good intern- filed business cards.

Solardelphia

2010 - 2010

  • Engineering Intern

    2010 - 2010

Designed solar arrays, conducted site visits, completed 3-d models of homes, created miscellaneous marketing tools.

  • Student/Researcher

  • CONSTRUCTION SUPERVISOR

    2008 - 2009

Lead daily volunteers in constructing energy efficient homes for low-income families. Had to learn new tasks on site and retain the skill quickly enough to teach it to a group of inexperienced volunteers. Significantly contributed to the organization, installation, and assessment of a neighborhood photovoltaic pilot project, which won the Eagle Award of notable achievement from 'Housing Colorado' in 2009.
