Focused on improving the quality and culture of engineering in the roller-coaster crypto space as Coinbase's first Engineering Fellow. My efforts ranged from strategic interactions with the Exec Team to help define the north star for Engineering as a discipline to tactically working closely with engineers to help build a more robust and resilient set of web3/crypto products. I had the great pleasure of getting to spend 50% of my time heads down on building significant new (still stealth) crypto infrastructure products for Coinbase; excited to see those launch!

Led a team of 800+ responsible for all Technical Infrastructure, Information Technology Services, Security, Machine Learning & Intelligence, Data Platforms, Developer Platform, and the HelloSign line of business. Worked closely with the C-Suite and the Board to establish a secure and reliable company-wide technical architecture as Dropbox evolved into a multi-product company.

Led an outstanding team of tech, sales, services, finance, marketing, and biz ops execs as we made the necessary strategic shifts to bring the business in alignment with the mission and vision of the company. Reduced burn to a sustainable level, unlocked public district schools as our market and aligned our digital and service offerings to drive fit. Rescaled the company as appropriate to emerge from an R&D mode as a sustainable business with 2x YoY revenue growth and market fit.

Co-founded AltSchool to create a platform to achieve our ambitious vision of making the best education the most accessible. We did this by bringing the learner-centric model of progressive education to the modern classroom. As CTO I was responsible for leading the tech team to create a digital platform that helped educators and students to achieve huge improvements in real-world classroom environments.

Engineering lead responsible for Search frontends and business logic (including the Google home page and search results pages), Google-wide static file serving, experiment infrastructure... Inherited existing legacy Search frontend in 2004 and built a team to rearchitect it to efficiently handle 20x growth in traffic from 500M queries a day to over 30B queries a day, while simultaneously handling 10k monthly changes from 1k developers. Responsible for the technology underpinning a decade of major feature and infrastructure launches in Search. Built an organization of 200+ from scratch and created a team culture widely recognized and respected inside Google. Outside of Search: changed the Google development model to incorporate developer testing: widely recognized as a massive positive improvement in Google development culture; Team lead for Kennedy, the effort to modernize the UX for all major Google properties in 3 months (see goo.gl/eq2no). Lead team to win twelve "Engineering Top 10" accomplishments, winner of 5 founders awards and the coveted Great Manager Award.

Founder and CEO of Gallery, an open source photo management product. Built project from scratch to become the most successful photo hosting product on the internet. Installed on over 300K websites and hosting more than 200M public photos worldwide, and growing rapidly with about 4K downloads a day. Senior member of 11-person team designing and implementing a complete rewrite of SourceForge Enterprise Edition, an enterprise level software collaboration tool suite written for J2EE application servers using Extreme Programming methodologies. Participated at all levels of design and implementation of the product from concept to final implementation. Responsible for porting application from JBoss to WebLogic and WebSphere, and for maintaining an infrastructure for developing and deploying simultaneously to all three appservers simultaneously from the same codebase. Well versed in the J2EE 1.3 specification and common implementations.
