The World Trade Organization (WTO) is the only global international organization dealing with the rules of trade between nations. At its heart are the WTO agreements, negotiated and signed by the bulk of the world’s trading nations and ratified in their parliaments. The goal is to ensure that trade flows as smoothly, predictably and freely as possible. The simple, fundamental principles in the WTO form the foundation of the multilateral trading system, which has been crucial towards the prosperity and well-being of the international community. As Grenada’s Permanent Representative to the WTO, H.E. Justin Sun actively contributes towards the deliberations, while paying special attention to the unique circumstances and challenges that Small Island Developing States face. Similarly, he is an advocate on the potential of digital technologies (including blockchain) to help bridge the developmental gap across economies, reinvigorate global trade in various ways, particularly in the development of a robust digital economy internationally and to help small economies better participate in the international economy. During his tenure as Permanent Representative of Grenada to the WTO, H.E. Justin Sun has made considerable progress in both negotiations and policy advocacy. Across a wide range of platforms, he made strides in pursuing the development interests of Grenada and pursued the development needs sorely needed by the Caribbean. He led Grenada's delegation at the 12th Ministerial Conference in 2022, and addressed the conference and discussed trade issues with representatives from around the world. He remains committed to the multilateral trading system and a WTO that is modern, transparent, and inclusive of the developmental interests of all members, particularly developing and least developed countries.
