Type A Machines

2012 - 2013

  • CEO

    2012 - 2013

Type A Machines is a new startup in the exciting arena of 3D-Printing. Type A Machines is now selling the award-winning Series 1 3D printer allowing makers, hobbyists, and tradespeople to harness the incredible creative potential of additive manufacturing. Among my jobs at Type A Machines was to raise the first round of capital for an expansion plan based on bringing the latest R&D into our next generation device. I successfully closed a first round of angel investment, and brought on several high-profile strategic technology partnerships (Microsoft, Autodesk, McNeel, Netfabb) as the foundation of a future software ecosystem for Type A. As chief sales-person, I was instrumental in closing enough deals with resellers to achieve cash-flow positive status in the month of June shortly before my departure. As the main spokesperson for the company, I helped create a barrage of media events that improved Type A Machine's overall brand and share of voice, including: (*) A high profile slot on the Robert Scoble v-blog reviewing our latest R&D (*) Live presentations at Maker Faire on the future of 3D printing (*) Prominent print-media coverage in WSJ, USA Today, Bloomberg, and 7x7 Magazine At the time of my departure, I had arranged a solid pipeline of five prospective investors who were declaring their interest to invest in a Series A round.

Primary job responsibilities included software design and development for a range of products and services offered by EIT and CommerceNet, and later Verifone (which acquired EIT in 1996.) I ran the CommerceNet Certificate Authority and was also the company's representative to the Visa/Mastercard SET committee for standardization of protocols for the secure transmission of credit card data over the Internet.
