New and existing science-based startups will emerge and tackle those challenges and opportunities for the benefit of the world. To support this process, a group of experts have been gathered by the University of Helsinki. Five Finnish investors from different fields of expertise together with pro-rector Jouni Hirvonen form University’s new Commercialisation Advisory Board: Timo Ahopelto, Milla Koistinaho, Reima Linnanvirta, Pauliina Martikainen and Pontus Stråhlman.

Solar Foods is part of the VTT Ventures portfolio administered by Voima Ventures. Independent from weather and irrigation, Solar Foods gives the world an unlimited protein source that is free from agricultural limitations and the boundaries of imagination. The unique and pure single-cell proteins of Solein are produced from CO2, water, and electricity. As Member of the Board of Directors I'm working with the company to scale it into a global player with a huge impact.

The unique PEKILO® technology of eniferBio enables the use of dilute organic side streams from biorefineries for sustainable mycoprotein production that will be used as fish feed. A continuous fermentation mode and absence of a separate hydrolysis step ensure high productivity and favorable nutritional values. eniferBio aims to enhance the sustainability of fish farming and it is a part of Voima Ventures' second portfolio.

Tht, in this case, stands for the human touch – a.k.a., the one thing missing from current state-of-the-art robots. A robot, capable of handling soft things in a human-like way, has the ability to truly disrupt the emerging food tech market. thtRobotics is a spinn off from LUT Lappeenranta University of Technology and part of Voima Ventures Fund II.

Finnadvance is a microtechnology and 3D biology solution company based in Oulu, Finland. Finnadvance is developing microfluidic organ-on-chips for pharmaceutical drug research and development. One potential outcome of improved organ-on-chips is that they can make animal testing in drug development obsolete by offering a significantly more accurate research methodology. Speeding up drug development while getting rid of animal testing is a Vision I as Member of the Board of Directors support fully.

Our robust systems are specifically designed to monitor hay, compost, grain and many other fermentable materials during storage. Our systems are a guarantee against fires and a quality certification for the stored materials. Quanturi is a VTT spin off and is part of the portfolio that is managed by Voima Ventures.

Geyser Batteries offers high-power heavy-duty energy storage solutions based on novel proprietary water-based electrolyte and unique engineering and manufacturing know-how. Our batteries have a small ecological foot print and they are specifically engineered for high-power applications. We are planning to build a manufacturing facility in Finland and strengthen the Finnish battery manufacturing ecosystem. Geyser Batteries is part of the Voima Ventures investment portfolio.
