Icatu Equity Partners, IEP, was one of the large PE funds created in Brazil in the late 90's. Banco Icatu, owned by the Almeida Braga family, decided to create a Private Equity group with Erik Ortel, an American, from Yale, who was running Goldman Sachs PE in Brazil, having invested in Arisco. When Mr. Ortel was building his team, I was hired by him, directly from Yale School of Management because of my balanced mix of Academic and Entrepreneurial experience. At Icatu I originated and then invested in Mabel, which Icatu sold to Pepsico in 2012.
