Product Manager HQ is an education media company dedicated to providing career advice for aspiring and current product managers. In 2014, I wanted to share learnings from my journey into product management and started PMHQ as a simple blog. There was no central resource like this at the time and it quickly evolved into providing the #1 industry read weekly newsletter and the world's largest Product Manager Slack community (8,000 members from 600+ companies), which Forbes listed as a top community for tech entrepreneurs & product people. Our sponsors have included companies like Facebook, Notion, Amplitude, Mixpanel, UserTesting, Heap, Morning Brew, Toptal, Asana, FreshDesk, UserVoice, Hired, Techcrunch, SaaStr, Hack Reactor, and others. The community has featured live sessions with product leaders such as: Ken Norton - Product Partner at Google Ventures, Ellen Chisa - VP Product at Lola, Josh Elman - VP Product at Robinhood / Venture Partner at Greylock Partners, Brandon Chu - VP Product at Shopify, Jess Lee - Partner at Sequoia / Former CEO of Polyvore, Alexandra Cavoulacos - Co-Founder & COO of The Muse, David Cancel - CEO of Drift, Nir Eyal - Author of Hooked, Kenneth Berger - Slack's First PM, Jackie Bavaro - Head of Product at Asana, and Punit Soni - Former CPO at Flipkart. Product Manager HQ has been featured in Forbes, Huffington Post, Product Hunt, Mattermark, AlphaUX, and many other publications. Product Manager HQ has also been listed as a 2015/2016/2017 Top Influencer in Product Management (www.pmyearinreview.com). PMHQ has been visited over 1mm+ times and we've sent ~5mm e-mails since then. These days, I'm not as closely involved as we've brought on a few partners with the same mission who help run the day-to-day and grow the company. Above all, I'm most proud of all of the readers, subscribers, and community members who got PM jobs and met friends, colleagues, and co-founders through the community.

AltSchool aimed to reimagine the education industry from the ground up with a mission of democratizing access to an exceptional and personalized education. The team of world-class educators, operators, and technologists were building software and hardware from first principles to run our network of micro-schools. Our goal was to tighten the feedback loop by rapidly testing first-party products and curriculum within our lab schools, and eventually license the tech to public schools. AltSchool raised $120mm from Andreessen Horowitz, Founders Fund, First Round Capital, Harrison Metal, Learn Capital, Priscilla Chan, Mark Zuckerberg, John Doerr and other exceptional investors. I worked as a Product Manager on Parents & Community products that helped tighten the feedback loop of a child's education in the classroom with the time they spent at home with parents. For example, our Stream product allowed an educator to share real-time highlights of student work at school with a parent so that the parent could reinforce the day's learnings at home. Although AltSchool didn't work out, I was glad to contribute to its mission and learned a lot about the education industry.

FactoryX was founded by Tom Chi (Co-Founder of GoogleX) to apply experimentation frameworks from GoogleX to rapidly create, de-risk, and operationalize incubated startup companies. At one point, FactoryX was launching 1 new company every other week. I had some free time in between roles and was lucky to spend some time as a Fellow at FactoryX advising incubated startups on marketing/growth/monetization. I learned a LOT about how to rapidly test and validate new startup concepts.

Senior Product Manager
2013 - 2015
Joined Kabam during their heavy-growth phase as the company scaled to 1,200+ employees over a 2 year period. Was one of the company's fastest promotions to Senior PM and helped to lead a portfolio of games across Vancouver, San Francisco, and Beijing. Was lucky to help lead a Beijing-based team into launching and scaling a game into the company's 2nd-3rd largest revenue generator in the portfolio. After Beijing, I worked on the acquisition and integration of the SF-based Phoenix Age studio. Kabam was acquired by NetMarble Games & 20th Century Fox for $1.2bn+. This was my first experience working at a hyper-growth company. Learned a lot about growth product management, managing teams, user psychology and how to apply an analytical mindset in future roles.
