Postdoctoral Research Associate, Translational Research on Pain Therapies
2012 - 2014
• Developed methods for therapeutic delivery of miRNAs and exosomes to animal models of pain • Authored a translational research study on changes in exosomal transcriptome in patients with complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) and in animal models of inflammatory pain • Verified miRNA regulation of inflammatory mRNAs in vitro • Mentored undergraduate and graduate students, managed ordering and protocol development
Graduate Research Assistant, Biochemistry
2007 - 2012
The second half of my Ph.D. research focused on mechanisms of translational regulation and regeneration in adult rodent sensory neurons. I transitioned into the lab of Dr. Jeffery Twiss at Nemours/A.I. duPont Hospital, but kept my affiliation with University of Delaware's Chemistry and BIochemistry Department. • Quantified localization and colocalization between mRNA degradation proteins in rodent peripheral axons • Measured the half-life of localized axonal mRNAs in response to neurotrophic factors after axotomy
Graduate research assistant, Biochemistry
2003 - 2007
My graduate studies began in the lab of Dr. Mueller, who relocated his lab to University of Louisville in 2007. My initial training was in mechanistic enzymology and I developed a strong foundation in protein biochemistry. • Published the kinetic and spectrophotometric characterization of enzyme: fluorinated tRNA inhibitor adducts • Resolved a discrepancy between a radiometric and spectrophotometric measurement of a tritium-labeled RNA substrate that helped the lab perform experiments with an increased accuracy and incorporate quality control procedures
