    2010 - 2013

Acquired by Twitter. I co-founded Spindle with Alex Lambert and Simon Yun in December 2010 and raised $2.3M from Polaris, Greylock, Atlas, SV Angel, and others. I led the company as CEO until it was acquired in June 2013. Spindle was a novel structured social search system that created algorithmic timelines. I'm most proud of something that we called "Spindle Alerts." Using your background location, Spindle constantly searched for terms you'd set and would notify you of interesting, relevant, and timely results nearby. You could walk around town and be notified about a "wine tasting" (or any other term) as you passed the venue. More info here: http://patkinsel.com/projects.

2009 - 2010

  • Program Manager - Docs.com

    2009 - 2010

Led development of docs.com. Docs.com was a partnership between Microsoft and Facebook to offer Microsoft's online versions of Office to the Facebook community. The project's goal was to design an entirely new collaborative experience tailored to the Facebook environment. I led development, product design, and collaboration with Facebook. I pitched the project to and secured executive support from Ray Ozzie and Stephen Elop at MSFT and Mark Zuckerberg and Bret Taylor at FB. Docs.com v1 was built by a small team of 5 people and was announced by Mark Zuckerberg at F8 2010. It was an original partner in Facebook's Instant Personalization program, was also the first application to build on top of Facebook's new Groups application and API, and was featured for over a year by Facebook as one of five showcase applications. After launch, I led iteration and continuous development of the site. Docs.com introduced the full, social document life-cycle: create, edit, invite to collaborate, edit with friends, share, and comment. To quote Mark Zuckerberg, "... and the key is that this product was built from the ground up with the assumption that every user would have their real identity and friends. This product was designed to be social." For my work on Docs.com, I was awarded a Gold Star Achievement Award and was also selected for the Microsoft Bench [emerging leader program]. • Program Manager - Bing Social Search

    2009 - 2009

I led the ideation and development of several social search experiences, which ultimately led to a partnership with the Bing social search team to bring Bing.com/Twitter to market. I served as project lead, was responsible for front end and middle tier development, participated in forward invention sessions, and contributed to Bing’s vision planning team. Bing.com/Twitter was first to market. The search vertical was unveiled at the Web 2.0 conference and received tremendous reviews. For example, Time Magazine said “Bing makes Twitter make sense.” Received Microsoft Gold Star achievement award. Microsoft Startup Labs was an entrepreneurial product group that developed ideas and prototypes into early-stage, market-proven products.
