2002
Founder & CEO
2002
I founded Mobity in 2002 and have led it since. Mobity is a boutique strategic advisory, investment bank, and venture incubator/accelerator serving Healthcare, Technology, Software, and Service verticals for a retainer, project, or success fee. To date, 150+ Fortune-Global/Midsize firms and VC-backed startups worldwide have relied on us to fulfill their business, financial, and tech needs. We are a team of successful serial entrepreneurs with multiple exits, influential investment bankers with rich networks, trusted strategic advisors with Big-4 pedigrees, proven business operators with C-suite experience, hands-on technologists with highly referenced patents, and angel investors. Our values dictate and lean structure allows us to be highly selective on whom we work with and how many clients we commit to concurrently. Most new clients engage us through a referral and rehire us for our results. Clients engage us as their trusted advisors to help build, scale, operate, optimize, and acquire or exit their high-value businesses. They retain us as their exclusive sell-side or buy-side broker to get their deals done with premium outcomes. We help source, negotiate, and close their Patent and Business Sales, Acquisition, and Joint Venture transactions. Mobity leaders have successfully brokered 100+ high-value IP/Patent, M&A, Joint Venture, and Strategic Alliance transactions and delivered 200+ strategy and execution engagements. We also partner with, invest in, and mentor young or first-time (often VC-backed or Physician) entrepreneurs and help incubate/accelerate their innovations and ventures. We do so by actively serving with them in hands-on (cofounder and acting or full-time executive) or advisory (board director, mentor/coach, investor) roles. In the past decade, we have successfully incubated and accelerated 15+ Digital Health, SaaS/SaMD, AI-ML, and other startups with five acquisition exits.
2002
Cofounder, CxO, Trusted Advisor, Business Broker, Coach, & Mentor
2002
Besides Mobity, I incubate/accelerate early-stage portfolio ventures as their cofounder, part-time or full-time exec (incl. CEO), chairman/board director, advisor, or investor from inception until they reach a specific milestone in six to 24 months. In ~ten years, I have built 15+ AI-ML, Digital, IoT, RPM, RTLS, and SaaS/SaMD startups with five acquisition exits. (Partial list below). Not all my current and past portfolio company roles are listed in the experience sections below to maintain brevity, client confidentiality, and stealth. I prefer to work with first-time entrepreneurs, young technologists, and physician practitioners tackling fundamental problems facing society with practical applications of exponential technologies. I pick mentees who are passionate yet coachable. I help them make the hard business model, team, corporate governance, product roadmap, and G2M decisions necessary to successfully raise capital, build a defensible moat, and grow profitably or rapidly as their context demands. I have also helped tens of Fortune-Global, midsize, public-sector (military, government), nonprofit health system, and academic organizations as their change agent. I have worked with their leadership to craft and communicate their digital and business transformation strategies. I have program and project managed their cross-functional teams in five continents. I have architected and implemented their customer experience, workforce development, supply chain sustainability, marketing, CSR, Diversity and Inclusion, Quadruple Aim, and other solutions. A partial list of the companies helped includes Apple, Astra Zeneca, BCG, Best Buy, Cisco, Commonwealth of PA, DARPA, Deutsche Telekom, Exide, Frito Lay (PepsiCo), Fujitsu, HP Enterprise, HP Inc, IBM, Johnson & Johnson, Kimberley Clark, KraftHeinz, Mack Truck (Volvo), McDermott International, NXP, On Semiconductor, Oracle, Philips, Qualcomm, ST Micro, Sutter Health, Takeda Pharmaceutical, Toyota, US DoD, and US Navy.
Venture Incubation CEO (until spinout)
2018 - 2019
Engaged to help incubate and spin out a BCG (Boston Consulting Group Digital Ventures) - Takeda Pharmaceuticals JV for the continuous Remote Patient Monitoring of post-discharge oncology patients. A Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) AI Platform with an ultimate goal of bridging the gap between Hospital and Home Health for high-risk patients using medical-grade wearables. 1) Built Gaido’s engineering and operations team and transitioned technology development and business operations from BCG DV consultants to Gaido 2) Developed business and fundraising strategy and pitch. Negotiated and closed a funding round. 3) Implemented financial and operating processes and controls 4) Inked an IRB trial agreement with one of the largest and oldest teaching hospitals in the USA 5) Launched the Patient App and corresponding Nurse Web Dashboard with integration to the cloud-connected and medical-grade wearable device 6) Completed formative/summative tests and filed an FDA 510(k) submission in record time Recommended to the Board at the end of my engagement that Gaido should pivot away from its original Medical Device focus to an AI/ML Data play, and seek to collect millions of physiological signal data points as quickly as possible to train its proprietary AI-ML algorithms to predict and prevent deterioration before it happens. Subsequently, Gaido was acquired by Biofourmis, a VC-backed company that shared the same vision and executed the strategy I had prescribed to become a unicorn.

VC-Backed HealthPals is pioneering Precision Prevention. Individuals and patients should be identified and treated effectively before costly, life-altering events happen. Helped raise Series A2, oversaw post-merger integration, groomed the CEO, and evangelized AppMedicine's Telehealth, Care Pathways, and Patient Feedback Management solutions among Surgical, Concierge, and Chronic Care Providers. Pitched to and persuaded Key Opinion Leader (KOL) Physicians, Administrators, and Decision-Makers of a US-Top-10 nonprofit health system to pilot our platform as an enabler of their quadruple aims: improve patient experience and outcomes, make Providers lean and efficient, reduce Clinician burnout, and deliver a higher return on their healthcare spend to their Government and Corporate (self-insured employer) Payers. Championed the following products and features: 1) AppVisit - Store and forward (asynchronous) telehealth. Hundreds of configurable clinical protocol templates. Optional integration with Medical devices and EMR systems. 2) eProtocol - Provider-configurable patient engagement mobile app for surgical procedure prep and follow up, hospital discharges, clinical trials, and chronic care management. Acquired a nearly bankrupt patient survey startup and successfully turned it around in partnership with MD's and administrators (then) practicing at PAMF/Sutter Health. Implemented a corporate cleanup and strategic pivot. Structured and closed a multi-million dollar, tax-efficient (section 704-1032 exchange) IP licensing deal to raise non-dilutive capital to fund this pivot. Built, sold, and deployed Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) Patient Experience Platform at five Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASC's). Helped the ASC’s attract and retain surgeons, engage patients, collect positive reviews, and improve their Patient Satisfaction, Safety, and CAHPS scores. Realized 100% site renewal and 125% dollar renewal rates. Developed mobile apps and web dashboards to automate care pathways and deliver HIPAA-secure personalized pre and post-procedure instructions and alerts to the patients. Pitched pilots at GI clinics and Endoscopy centers to help achieve the quadruple aim: improve surgical outcomes, enhance the patient experience, minimize or avoid late cancellations, and reduce staff workload. Ultimately, negotiated and closed an acquisition of Docsvox by AppMedicine to deliver an exit to the cofounders and investors.
