My PhD thesis delved into the role of the JAK/STAT pathway on rheumatoid arthritis, with a focus on the close link between lipid metabolism, inflammation, and sarcopenia. By using in vitro and in vivo approaches, this study revealed a crucial function of this signaling cascade on the cholesterol dynamics in the macrophage, and explained one of the main mechanisms underlying dyslipidemia in rheumatoid arthritis. Additionally, we described a compensatory anabolic response in the rheumatoid muscle driven by decreased STAT-3 activation.
