Smartlens is a late-stage clinical company developing breakthrough technologies that are transforming the management of glaucoma, a leading cause of irreversible blindness, and other anterior segment eye diseases. Its flagship product, miLens, is a novel, non-invasive contact lens-based device designed to monitor intraocular pressure (IOP), the primary risk factor for glaucoma. miLens utilizes an electronics-free, ultra-sensitive IOP monitoring system to address a significant unmet need that has persisted since the 1950s. Strong clinical results for miLens were presented at the 2023 and 2024 American Glaucoma Society meetings, with commercialization planned for 2025. miLens is protected by issued and pending patents in over 40 countries. In addition to miLens, Smartlens has developed THERmic, a programmable, non-invasive drug delivery system that not only monitors IOP but also delivers personalized medication at the optimal time, improving treatment efficacy and patient compliance to prevent disease progression. Smartlens’ AI-powered imaging platform also functions as a smart slit lamp, providing clinicians with a powerful tool to remotely manage anterior segment diseases beyond glaucoma. Backed by investments from prominent institutions, venture capital firms, Stanford University, and key opinion leaders, Smartlens has earned recognition from Nature Medicine, Fortune, BBC, and ABC News. The company was honored with the “Outstanding Innovation in Medical Technology and Life Sciences” award at the 2021 High-Tech Awards by Octane. Smartlens is striving for a world where eye diseases no longer steal vision or compromise quality of life, ensuring better outcomes for patients all around the globe.
