Stu Soffer has the experience of over 130 IP matters as a consulting, testifying or neutral technical expert. The complement of cases includes patent, copyright and trade secret infringement, but also class actions and contractual disputes. Most engagements involve review of computer source code, internet technologies, telephony, digital media and reverse engineering. Stu specializes in finding and locating non-patent prior art. Stu was an early developer of deep IP Litigation Data Technology, encompassing litigation analytics, patent quality, integrating data channels on patents, litigation, reexaminations, claim constructions, FDA Orange Book, prior art, technical standards and pools. The data serves as a basis for empirical studies. He provides Management Consulting to the C-Suite on IP problems with large financial or operational impacts. Consulting engagements also address patent portfolio cultivation, assessment and licensing, and 'patent engineering.’ Stu also serves as external member of patent review boards, and advisor to startups. Stu conducts technical due diligence for M&A, venture and private equity placements. Recognizing a gap in understanding of entrepreneurship in sustainable tech infrastructures, Stu dubbed a topic, CareerPreneurship. As a result, he has a new presentation on the topic.

"Stuart Soffer may be an engineer by education, but he defies classification. He is also a patent law expert witness, helicopter pilot, technology chronicler, steampunk enthusiast, art aficionado and vintage camera collector. Stu is someone whose wide-ranging interests reminds us that Silicon Valley owes its unique spirit to more than the ability to build computers or write software." Punch Monthly - August 2019
