  • Editorial Board, Today's Wound Clinic

    2017

Today's Wound Clinic (TWC) is the leading wound care management publication. It combines medical, operational, financial, and administrative content of value to clinical and industry stakeholders alike. Its parent company, HMP Global, publishes several wound-care related journals and organizes conferences (Wound Management Today, The Symposium on Advanced Wound Care, etc.) which are among the most influential and well-attended in the wound care world. Having contributed content to the journal in the past, I was invited to officially join the TWC editorial advisory board in October 2017. I have also been on faculty at SAWC. ▲ROLE My role is to add dimensions of wound care strategy, operations, finance, international insights, industry and business perspective to their already robust coverage of clinical and administrative wound care delivery trends. I contribute articles, identify and connect industry talent and topics, and review others' articles within my realm of expertise to encourage relevance and accuracy.

Corstrata is tackling the problem of connecting the best wound and ostomy care clinical expertise to the care settings where they are needed yet lacking. This need is compounded by the scarcity and lack of access to wound experts, especially in the post-acute provider space where only 10% of certified wound care nurses practice. The result is a tremendous rate of misdiagnosis, ineffective treatments, poor clinical outcomes, and wasted resources, all producing critical data amassed by Corstrata in its analytics platform to inform its treatment algorithms for driving optimal care. Corstrata’s service-enabled technology platform provides access to wound experts to improve clinical outcomes at a lower cost per wound patient. ▼ If you are interested in learning more about Corstrata (corstrata.com) or the advisory work I do with wound startups and investors, please connect with me.

FeelTect’s technology, Tight Alright, is a pressure sensing, connected-health device for measuring and monitoring sub-bandage pressure during compression therapy, primarily for the millions of people worldwide with venous leg ulcers (VLUs). Compression is a proven therapy for VLUs, however if it’s applied too loose, it’s ineffective, and if it’s too tight, it’s dangerous. ▼ If you are interested in learning more about FeelTect (feeltect.com) or the advisory work I do with wound startups and investors, please connect with me.

(Acquired by Net Health in April 2020). Tissue Analytics (TA) is the leading mobile imaging and artificial intelligence platform for wound, skin, and ostomy management. After assessing the digital health space--particularly on behalf of clients--I developed an appreciation of how TA in particular was able to solve so many pain points across the industry. When assked, I agreed to join the TA Board of Directors as an Independent Director. https://diligencewcg.com/rafael-mazuz-ta-independent-board-director/ ▲ ROLE My role as an independent director was to ensure that the company's strategy is in line with the needs of the many wound, skin, and regenerative medicine stakeholders served by the TA platform. I also played an important role in corporate governance and business development by adding confidence and credibility to TA's management, partners, and investors. ▼ If you are interested in discussing board of director, advisory board, interim executive, or related roles, please connect with me.

Healogics is the world's largest provider of advanced wound care services, driving both the science and delivery of care. They provide management expertise for hospital and clinic-based outpatient centers for advanced wound care as well as inpatient and skilled nursing facility (SNF) wound care and healing management services. ▲ ROLE When I joined Healogics, they managed 150 wound care centers in the US. By the time, I left, we managed wound care programs across about 800 wound centers, hospital inpatient programs, and skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), and had expanded internationally. During this period, I had a front row seat to both the on-the-ground operations and management, as well as corporate planning, regulatory / legal developments, and other strategic considerations for both the company and the industry. As the director of wound care centers, I partnered with hospital C-level executives (from small community hospitals to world-renowned academic institutions) whose wound care and HBOT programs we opened and managed. As a customer of advanced wound care products, I met and collaborated with sales, marketing, and clinical specialist professionals. Many of them are now in senior leadership positions within the industry. The feedback we provided them on product features has also made its way into multiple leading products being sold and used today. The experiences I gained at Healogics formed the core of my wound care competency. Combined with the formal management consulting, venture capital, military, and business school experience before and since then, this laid the foundation for what is now Diligence Wound Care Global--the world’s leading wound care business advisory firm. ▼ If you are interested in learning more about my involvement in wound care services management at Healogics and in the years since then, please connect with me.
