The Jungle Gayborhood is a boutique hotel and retreat center, built by and for the LGBTQ+ community in the heart of the Costa Rican jungle. Our mission is to co-create a home for the queer community that inspires personal exploration, radical self expression, and a sense of connection - internally, with community, and with nature. We actively cultivate practices that support these goals by consciously exploring embodiment practices, sacred plant ceremonies, permaculture, and sacred sexuality.

Today the "on-demand economy" represents a massive opportunity for our economy and society, with millions of people around the globe earning billions of dollars through an ever-growing list of marketplaces. However, these opportunities have a catch - they exist outside of the traditional safety net and workers must figure out many aspects of work and life that they are used to having managed by an employer. Peers is working to fill this gap, building a suite of products and services to support workers in the on-demand economy, and helping build the safety net for the "future of work". Accomplishments at Peers: • Launched two new marketplaces to help On-Demand workers find and manage work opportunities • Introduced two novel insurance products to protect On-Demand workers • Served as a critical voice to the media in articulating worker perspectives on the changing nature of work. Frequently featured in national publications including the New York Times, Forbes, and Fast Company. • Played a critical role in defining the concept of Portable Benefits, a mechanism to extend the social safety net to independent workers • Helped convene a coalition of ~40 On-Demand marketplaces, think tanks across the political spectrum, labor unions, venture capitalists, and though leaders to publish an open letter to policy makers, urging laws and regulations that will enable Portable Benefits • Published a report on Portable Benefits for the Aspen Institute that aims to inform the future structure of a Portable Benefits System, “Portable Benefits in the 21st Century: Shaping a New System of Benefits for Independent Workers”. Read more here: https://www.aspeninstitute.org/publications/portable-benefits-21st-century/ • Merged the company into the Indy Workers Guild to further a movement to support independent workers.
