Thompson Hutton has engaged in venture capital and private equity, generally focused on businesses providing financial services technologies and information. The firm manages the ongoing portfolio investments of XL Innovate, in addition to direct venture investments. Tom serves as a Director or advisor to XL Innovate investments including SoFi, Lemonade (LMND), Slice Labs, Windward, ZenDrive, Pillar and GeoQuant; Archipelago, Philbrook's Boatyard, and LMR Wines and Hospitality. He serves a Senior Adviser at Brewer Lane Capital, GenStar Capital, and Stone Point Capital.

The fund is financially backed by XL Group, Plc. Investment Partners are located in Menlo Park, CA; Los Angeles, CA; and New York, NY.

Tom serves on the Strategic Advisory Board of Genstar, and has worked with the firm for approximately five years. He serves as a Director of Palomar, a Genstar investment, an advises the firm on investment opportunities.

Tom served as CEO of White Mountains Re for a brief period following the 2005 hurricanes. At that time, WMRe was a holding company consisting of operations including Folksamerica (US); Sirius (Sweden and Europe); WMRe Advisors (Dublin, IR); and WMRe Underwriters (Bermuda).

Tom was CEO from initial venture capital funding (provided by Bain Capital and Sutter Hill Ventures) through sale of the company to the Daily Mail Group Plc, in 2000.
