Moved Airbnb from a monolithic Rails app to a service oriented architecture to support company growth, agility, and better failure isolation. Lead the team through a number of challenging upgrades, e.g. from Rails 2.3 to 3.0, Ruby 1.8 to 1.9, move to Amazon RDS. One man ops army for the first year. Provided technical leadership to the whole engineering team. Managed the SRE, search, and trust & safety teams.

Co-founded Knaup Multimedia at the age of 15 to satisfy a demand for professionally crafted web sites for small and medium businesses. The company was a one-stop shop for everything from web design and development to hosting services. Offered an email service with superior spam and virus filters compared to major ISPs. Provided B2B services like domain registration and hosted DNS for a number of customers, including handy.de - one of the top web properties in Germany. Co-author of patent DE10013708A1.
